Tell us the basics about your move and we’ll come back with a written, itemised quote. For full accuracy on larger moves we’ll arrange a free in-home or video survey.

What to include in your quote request

The more accurate your information is at this stage, the closer the quote you get back will be to the final price. Removal quotes can vary wildly from one company to another even for the same move, and most of that variation comes from incomplete information rather than dishonest pricing — volume, access and timing all swing the figure. Here’s what makes the biggest difference.

The current property

Full address with postcode (essential for routing and mileage), property type and bedroom count, floor level if it’s a flat, and any access notes — narrow staircase, no lift on the third floor, single-track lane in, parking permit needed, gate code, distance from the parking spot to the front door. If there’s an outbuilding, loft, garage or shed in scope, mention it here — loft contents are the single most-common surprise on move day.

The destination property

Same information again: address, type, floor, access. If you’re still searching, an approximate postcode is fine and we can use it to estimate mileage; we’ll firm up the figure once the destination is confirmed. International? Tell us the destination country and city — we’ll quote the UK leg first and the international leg follows once we know more about volume and timing.

What’s moving

A rough room-by-room inventory is ideal — our storage calculator can convert your items into cubic feet, which is the number we use internally for vehicle sizing. Even “everything in a 3-bed with one big sofa, no piano, no garden machinery” is enough to start. Call out anything heavy (pianos, safes, gun cabinets), fragile (antiques, art, instruments) or awkward (sectional sofas, cast-iron baths, oversize wardrobes). Photos help too — you can attach them after submitting the form.

Timing

An ideal move date is enough; if you’re flexible, give a window (e.g., “any time in the first half of June”). Tell us if your move is conditional on a completion date that hasn’t come through yet — we hold provisional dates without a deposit while a chain settles, then convert to a fixed booking once you have the certainty you need.

Add-on services

If you’d like our full packing service, interim storage, piano handling, an unpacking service at the destination, or a quote for international shipping, mention it on the form. Each is priced separately so you can see what costs what.

What happens after you submit your quote request

The same person handles your enquiry from first contact to follow-up. There’s no quote-engine that spits out a number based on bedroom count alone — every quote is reviewed by a human against our forty-year database of similar moves.

Within 24 hours

You’ll get a reply confirming we’ve received your request, with any clarifying questions (often about access, timing or the inventory). For straightforward smaller moves we can usually write the quote right then. For anything over a 3-bed, anything international, anything antique-heavy, or anything that needs storage, we’ll propose a survey date.

Within 48–72 hours

The full written quote arrives by email — itemised, fixed-price, valid for 30 days, with no hidden mileage clause or volumetric extras. The same email contains the link to confirm the date with a 25% deposit, plus the BAR Advance Payment Guarantee certificate showing your deposit is protected. You can read our terms and conditions at this point if you haven’t already.

Within 5 working days

For larger moves we’ll have completed an in-person survey — usually with Mark or a senior crew lead. The survey’s the time to spot the awkward antique, the impossible gateway, the lift that’s out of service — we’d much rather hear about these now than discover them on move day.

You stay in control of timing

There’s no auto-follow-up sequence. We’ll send the quote, then leave you to consider it — we don’t pester. If you’d like to talk it through, every quote includes a direct number for the person who wrote it. If you’d rather wait until the property chain firms up, we’ll hold the quote and re-confirm pricing closer to the date.

What we’ll ask at the in-person survey

For larger or international moves we visit your home before quoting. The survey takes 30–45 minutes for a typical 3-bed and covers the things a phone or video call can’t reliably catch.

Room-by-room walk-through

We open every cupboard and wardrobe. Not because we’re nosy, but because what’s behind a closed door is what catches surveyors out — full filing cabinets, glassware collections, sports kit, kids’ toy mountains. The survey turns into the cubic-foot figure on the quote, so it pays to be honest about everything you intend to take.

Access at both ends

Lorry access from the road to the front door is the single biggest variable in pricing. A driveway-side load is fast; a 50-metre carry over wet grass is not. We’ll measure gateways, check parking restrictions, look at the stairs internally, and flag anything that might need a shuttle vehicle or porter time.

Special items

Anything heavy, fragile, sentimental or oversize gets its own discussion. Pianos — upright, grand or digital? Antiques — need bespoke timber crating? Garden machinery — fuel drained? Aquariums — we’ll quote separately because livestock travel needs a third-party specialist. The survey is the right time to flag everything; no surprise is welcome on move day.

Timing and dependencies

Some moves are constrained by external timing — school terms, end-of-tenancy dates, business handovers, container ship schedules. Tell us what’s fixed and what’s flexible. We’ll work back from your fixed dates and recommend a buffer if your move needs to absorb a chain delay. The surveyor leaves with everything they need to write a firm price; you should leave the survey confident that the figure on the quote is the figure you’ll actually pay, with no “subject to confirmation” clauses hidden in the small print.

How we use your quote information

The information you send us is used only to write your quote and to contact you about it. We don’t add you to a mailing list, we don’t pass your details to partners or affiliates, and we don’t use it for marketing analytics beyond standard website logs. Email and phone numbers are kept for the duration of any quote (typically 30 days) plus a short window afterwards in case you come back to book; if you’d like us to delete your details, just reply to any of our messages and ask. Full details are in our privacy policy.
